Patterns and Kits

All LadyHawk designs patterns contain diagrams, full size templates, and complete instructions – I basically assume you don’t know how to do any of the techniques used in my designs, and I explain everything thoroughly to insure your success.  So you can buy our products with confidence!  Our designs are intended to be created almost entirely on the sewing machine – there is little to no handwork in these designs.  Most can be completed in just a few days.

We offer complete kits for all of our designs.  We are the exclusive source for official LadyHawk designs kits!  Others may offer a 'kit' for our designs, but ours are the 'real deal'.  As the designer, I personally choose all the fabrics for each and every kit, so you may rest assured that our kits will be as beautiful as the original design.  (Fabric choices will vary with availability).   I only use top quality fabrics from top quality designers, and I do a 'cost comparison' on each kit.  I can assure you that our kits are more cost effective than purchasing comparable yardage and supplies separately.

Also, please note the words 'complete kits'.  That means we include all the materials  you will need to complete the project (except the thread).  So when you purchase a LadyHawk designs kit, you get: 

The pattern, all materials to complete the quilt top (or garment), plus the binding, batting, backing (or lining), all stabilizers, fibers, bonding materials, etc. as they pertain to each quilt (or garment).  All you need are your sewing tools and threads!

We also carry most of the notions you might need to complete your designs - hoops, threads, tube turners, etc.  We have really beautiful fibers that are wonderful for embellishing!  We are working on our notions page right now, and plan to offer these in the very near future.  In the meantime, if you have a need for any of these items, just e-mail us (link provided at the bottom of each page) and we'll work it out!

If you are purchasing a kit, and would like to have the perfect threads to go along with it, I will be happy to hand pick those threads for you and send them along with your kit, for no additional shipping charge - just the price of the notions.  I know which threads are just perfect for each kit!

Purple Mountain Majesty 
Size:  16” x 16”

This simple quilt is very easy to assemble.  It features easy 2 layer chenille techniques which are clearly explained and illustrated in the pattern.  This design is stitched together using raw edge appliqué - a fast and super easy method that creates lots of texture in the design.  Also included in this design is an introduction to free motion stitching to 'draw' plants and embellish the quilt.

Twilight Transition
Size:  24” x 26”

This striking design is surprisingly easy to create.  It features raw edge appliqué and my simple ‘thread drawing’ technique.  All the trees and bushes are created from thread before they are attached to the quilt using a water soluble stabilizer and your sewing machine.  The saguaro cactus is made realistic with the use of a twin needle to create pin tucks (ridges) in the cactus.  And yes, the sky fabric you see in this sample is the same on you’ll get in the kit!

Desert Storm
Size: 18” x 24”

This dramatic design is one of our most popular!  It starts with a piece of hand dyed fabric with a nice ‘light area’ in which to free motion stitch your lightning.  Stitch your earth pieces down with my simple raw edge appliqué.  Embellish your cactus with pin tucks (ridges) using a twin needle, then make it come to 3-D life with my easy trapunto method.  No slashing or poking in stuffing here!  Top it all off with beautiful thread drawn trees that you create on water soluble stabilizer then add to your quilt.

Desert Diner
Size:  18½” x 20½”

This design features my twist on basic chenille techniques.  So the cactus is very dimensional, with lots of raw edges and several extremely 3-D flowers.  These flowers really ‘pop’ off this quilt!  The hummingbird is free motion stitched – I used metallic threads so he has some sparkle.  The pattern contains exact instructions and diagrams to complete the design.  The prickly looking border is created using paper piecing methods (full size master diagrams included in pattern.)

Prickly Pair
Size:  16½” x 21½”
                                                    

This is one of my personal favorite designs.  It contains some very creative techniques, resulting in this realistic piece.  The three major techniques in this quilt are ‘thread drawing’, and my unique approach to bobbin work and couching yarn.  As with all my patterns, each technique is clearly instructed and illustrated to help you get going.  None of them are difficult, but some seem a little intimidating – don’t be afraid – you’re in good hands!  I’ve taught these techniques to literally thousands of students, and no one has ever failed my class yet!  So be brave and step into the world of embellishments – you’ll be glad you did!

Way Out West Winter Wonderland
Size:  21” x 25”

This simple design is quick and easy to make for the holidays.  Simple bonding techniques create the wall and luminaries in no time.  I’ve taken the guesswork out of the 3-D looking wall and luminaries with carefully designed full size templates and instructions for laying them out.  The cacti are understated ‘Christmas’ – a simple serene embellishment of tiny crystal ‘lights’ adorn the cacti on this piece.  These crystals are just fabulous – they come with special ‘glue’ already on the crystals, so you just place them where you want them and press with a hot iron to adhere in place.  These crystals reflect light beautifully.  The sparkle in the corners of the border is paper pieced, to give you nice sharp points with minimal effort!  Each pattern includes one package of 80 iron-on crystals, (enough to make this quilt one time).  Additional packs of crystals are available for $9.00 per pack – just drop me an e-mail using the ‘Contact Us’ button.

Thread Drawing ~  New!

Wanna learn how to 'thread draw' without a particular project in mind?  Here ya' go!  This pattern just teaches you how I create the plants, trees, etc. used in some of my designs (see the tree on 'Desert Storm', or the coral on 'Calm Below the Storm').  This pattern contain all the instructions for free-motion thread drawing, as well as drawings of five of my most popular trees and plants to get you started.  All you have to do is trace the designs onto your water soluble stabilizer and start!  This technique is fabulous for getting comfortable with ANY sort of free motion stitching ~ it will really improve your free motion skills in a very short period of time.  Thread Drawing is from my TextureScapes 3 workshop, and it never fails to be the most popular technique ~ everyone just loves this! 

In order to do this technique, you'll need the pattern with instructions, light weight water soluble stabilizer, a thin hoop that will fit under the darning foot of your sewing machine, and pretty threads.  I've put together a kit with all of those things included ~ and when you purchase the kit, the pattern is free!

Fiber Couching  ~  New!

Wanna learn how to couch fibers without a particular project in mind?  Here ya' go!  This pattern just teaches you how I couch fibers in some of my designs (see the ocotillo on the left side of 'Prickly Pair', or the fibers couched onto the left side on the front of the 'Tack Room to Tea Room' vest).  This pattern contain all the instructions for couching fibers the LadyHawk designs way.  You'll never go back to traditional couching once you try this method.

In order to do this technique, you'll need the pattern with instructions, light weight water soluble stabilizer, and about 40 - 60 yards of a variety of fibers.  I've put together a kit with the stabilizer and beautiful blends of fibers included ~ and when you purchase the kit, the pattern is free!

Prayin’ For Rain
Size: 20” x 24”

This design was inspired on one of our pilgrimage across the Midwest.  If you look closely at the large view of this design, you might be able to see how 3-D the design is – the leaves and all the parts of the flowers are very dimensional.  The sunflowers are easy to create, as they are made from a strip of fabric – you never have to handle all the little ‘petals’.  This pattern is packed with good diagrams and of course, full size templates for simple completion of this realistic looking tribute to summer in the Midwest.

Calm Below the Storm
Size:  36" x 46"

I love whales, especially humpbacks.  This quilt is extremely three-dimensional - from the whale's fins to the sea plants.  There is lots of free motion 'thread drawing' on this one!  The whales swim on a pieced 'Storm at Sea' background.  The pattern contains a package of tiny glass beads that you fuse on with Steam-a-Seam-2 ^®  that bond on in an instant to create the 'bubbles' from the whale's exhale.  The kit for this design includes beautiful hand dyes for the whales, and a 12 step gradation of beautiful blue and green hand dyed fabrics (I dye them all myself) to create a gorgeous watery looking background.

Hot Time at the Horny Toad Hangout
Size:  XS - XL

This design celebrates some of the creatures who share their back yard with me (they were here first...)  This vest is a great place to show off your free motion stitching skills.  The  lizards and the legs and feet of the horny toads are free motion stitched.  No embroidery machine required!  I share some great tips in the pattern for getting control of your free motion stitching.  It is really easier than you might think - lots of students who have never even free motion stitched before get a good lizard on their first try, using my methods.  Some sunrays, desert plants and a 3-D horny toad complete this vest.  Just a little bonding and stitching and you're done!  Lots of fun to wear - it always draws attention!  Pattern contains the five size vest pattern, diagrams, and full size templates.

Total Eclipse
Size:  XS - XL

This designs was inspired by the bright sunny days and the clear desert nights.  The main technique in this vest is one I call 'scrap happy' - you 'chop up' your fabrics and stitch them onto a foundation fabric to create a one-of-a-kind piece of fabric.  High speed sewing at its best - great fun, and great texture!  Top it off with a bit of free motion stitching to create facial features, and you're stylin'!  A great place to show off your decorative threads and stitches - anything goes on this one!  The kit for this design contains a beautiful 15-step hand dyed blue gradation to create the wonderful background for your sun and moon.  Stunning!  Pattern contains the five size vest pattern, diagrams, and full size templates.

Tack Room to Tea Room    New!
Size:  XS - XL

This garment, aptly named ‘Tack Room to Tea Room’, will literally go anywhere – from the rodeo grounds to a night on the town or afternoon tea with the girls.  It’s all in the fabric choices – choose black or ivory for evening wear, go soft and feminine, bright and funky, or choose a western, ethnic, or some other theme – you are in control!  This unique vest is comprised of several simple to sew panels, which are assembled to create a one of a kind piece of wearable art.  Every one of these vests looks different, based on the fabric choices and placement of the panels.  In keeping with my style, it has lots of three dimensional effects - like the complex looking arrowheads - they are easy to do, but they don't look it!  Check out the detailed photos on the link above. 

The kits for this vest are made up of top quality batik fabrics - as well as a custom blend of beautiful fibers - in a choice of two colorways - the colors shown above - rich green, brown, and rust - just delicious!

Or you may choose 'basic black' - very rich!   This 'black on black' version is comprised of a very dark, solid black cotton accented with a black cotton/silk blend - it has a beautiful sheen, like the black satin accents on a tuxedo jacket.  This one is receiving rave reviews!

Puppy Love
Size:  44" x 66"

I am a major dog lover, so this one was a no-brainer for me!  These adorable pups are very easy to piece - several of my customers who are brand new sewers chose this one for their first quilt and did a great job!  The ears and tongues on these dogs are three-dimensional and stitched with the raw edges exposed - it really adds dimension and whimsy to the quilt!  The facial features and other accents are bonded on, then you can decorative stitch around them if you like.  The kit for this quilt comes in two colors - the red 'bright' version, and a black and tan version for us 'big kids'.  Just select the desired color in the shopping cart.  This makes a great lap quilt, kid's quilt, or gift - even for your dog!
